I wanted to create a collection of animals in glass to convey the fragility of their existence. We use glass to protect ourselves against the elements and when observing this planets wonderful wildlife. I wanted to recycle our protective glass into a ghostly depiction of endangered animals and what they may become. With our ever expanding cities encroaching on our wildlife and habitats we are forcing more and more animals into extinction.
This collection uses recycled window glass from a development site saving on land fill and waste. Recycled glass depicts the fragility of our wildlife and reacts in the same manner if too much pressure or strain is applied with the total lose of what we see. I chose the animals of Africa due to the well-known threat of their extinction, they are standing on top of a sphere depicting Earth and inviting the viewer to consider how we may keep and save these animals and our planet
