ABOUT
Teaching in rural India is a profession that asks for everything and gives back very little. No peer network, no access to materials, no structured path to grow. Bharti Foundation had already built a Teacher App to address this, but adoption was low. Teachers found it complex, and with already stretched schedules, they simply did not engage.
Think Design was brought in to understand why and to rebuild from there.
What the our research told us
- Time was the hardest constraint: teachers could not invest in learning something unfamiliar
- The interface required too much effort upfront before delivering any value
- Teachers were not looking for a training tool; they wanted a professional community
What we designed
- Bite-sized courses, expert webinars, podcasts, and classroom materials designed for short, focused sessions
- Interface rebuilt around patterns teachers already knew: WhatsApp and Facebook interactions
- Staffroom: a community space connecting teachers across schools for peer support and shared experience
- Learn and Earn features, leaderboards, and success stories that gave teachers the recognition and motivation to return
The result
- 100,000+ educators actively using the platform
- 3 million learners reached nationwide
- Rural teachers with a professional community, resources to grow, and recognition for their work
