ABOUT
Cotswold District Council were seeking an agency to update their current brand identity for them. The identity needed to be an evolution of their previous brand, rather than a revolution.
They had assets with historical value/heritage that we needed to keep, but the goal was to modernise those and bring in a more dynamic, 21st-century tone. They also wanted to stop the brand feeling disjointed, due changes in the leadership there wasn’t a clear voice/direction. The updated identity needed to have a clear, consistent voice and instructions on how to apply it.
Firstly, we carried out a brand audit of the previous identity, carried out stakeholder interviews with people who should be consulted throughout our development process. Once we had gathered all the evidence, we held a workshop with the Cotswold team. Here we considered brand archetypes, early banding concepts and a discussion about narratives.
We then created the updated identity for Cotswold District Council. This included a logo mark, a graphic device to be used where appropriate, a new colour palette and chosen typeface. We put together comprehensive brand guidelines that explained all the elements of the new identity, how to use it and examples of it in action.
Afterwards, we then moved into designing assets and collateral for the identity’s launch, this included ID cards, lanyard and powerpoint templates that followed the guidelines.
The Cotswold District Council team were happy with the results and got to work rolling out the new identity straight away.
