The Glenlivet Brand Home is one of the landmarks in Speyside. We needed to create an authentic, documentary film to enrapture the visitors as soon as they step in. The film was to depict the brand’s 200-year history, whilst embodying its original spirit. Inspired by iconic title sequences, we created a visual language that coherently glued together vintage materials with modern items. With 6 screens and a 180o set up to play with, we combined film techniques, animation and collage styles to add punctuation, pace and creative flair, as, after all, The Glenlivet is a cut above the rest.

To achieve the highest level of authenticity we mined the Glenlivet archive for historical artifacts. Wherever possible genuine artworks, labels, photos or scans of historical documents were brought to life using modern software techniques. Hundreds of items were painstakingly isolated in photoshop. By further separating all their working elements we could then reassemble them in After Effects for animation. E.g. For the gun smoke itself, 3d sequences were rendered using a bespoke 3d simulation created in Cinema 4d.

This technique gave us the control of camera angles and the smoke dynamics plus the ability to render at extreme resolutions needed for a large screen installation.

These sequences were then brought back into After Effects where we applied custom filters to achieve an etched hand-crafted feel in keeping with the crafted collage style of the animation
Since the Brand Home opening, the tour guides have said that the film has been a tremendous success. Audiences have been praising the films on their reviews, talking about their “unforgettable experience”, giving a “10/10” and their appreciation of “ how the history was told”, recommending others to visit.
