Rwanda’s primary and rural road network is estimated at 15,000 km. In 2016, only 40% of the population was within 2km of an all-season road in good condition.
By 2018 the Government of Rwanda’s ambitious rural road improvement program, financed by four donor agencies (USAID, EU, the Netherlands & The World Bank) was already reaping significant rewards.
The development objectives of this program are to enhance market access and reduce transport costs for all people and goods. To date, the Rwanda road network has improved dramatically through rehabilitation and upgrading–– these images showcase not only the activities of informal trading, and rural upliftment but, display a colour collage of an improved and vibrant lifestyle embraced in luscious landscapes/…
