About me

Dear Sir/Madam,

My name is Amy McMillan and I am approaching the end of my final year of studying English Literature at the University of Birmingham. I am interested pursuing an editorial career and am particularly keen to secure a post within the West Midlands region.

.

I believe I possess the necessary skills to be an effective member of your company. My work experience at Janklow & Nesbit has strengthened my communication skills, both verbal and written, as I was able to liaise with both publishers and authors linked to the literary agency and interact with various connections through both email and phone call exchanges. The role also demanded an ability to express a close attention to detail, as I assisted in proof reading documents and literature and approving and rejecting manuscript submissions. I am a highly skilled writer and have experience in both traditional and digital methods of writing. Alongside the skills gained through studying a degree in English at university, I have also been able to develop and enhance my writing and analytical skills and express a close attention to detail through working as a journalist for Redbrick newspaper; the University of Birmingham student publication. My interest and dedication to writing is also demonstrated through my experience in blogging and my award for the College of Arts and Law Writing Competition, in which I wrote a piece on government involvement in education. I am a Student Brand Ambassador for Big Choice, which involves a comprehensive understanding and execution of social media marketing and online and public promotions, equipping me with the skills needed for the marketing aspects of this post. These experiences have demonstrated my abilities to edit, write, and interact through a variety of platforms and express my creative talents in a precise and effective manner.

I have strong interpersonal skills and would thus be able to work well and thrive within any team. My work as a Student Ambassador at the University of Birmingham involved speaking to prospective applicants about the English course and the University, delivering presentations, and leading campus tours, thus enriching my public speaking skills and my ability to interact enthusiastically and effectively. In addition, my position at Next Ltd as a stockroom assistant greatly enhanced my teamwork skills as employees would have to consistently work in groups to meet strict deadlines and time limits. I am able to learn quickly and adapt well within new environments and am both flexible and versatile within the workplace. As my academic record shows, I take pride in high standards and I always strive to complete any project or task to the best of my ability.

I would welcome an opportunity to discuss my application further with you and look forward to hearing from you in the near future.

Yours sincerely,

Amy McMillan.
