ABOUT
It’s rare to work on a project that genuinely disrupts an industry. Contributing to the launch of this new golf event was a unique opportunity, as projects like this do not come around often.
Territory Studio assembled a top tier team to create the broadcast graphics, and it was a privilege to work alongside such talented and well organised people.
The event challenged the traditional approach to live golf coverage, much like Twenty20 did for cricket. Its all at once format and strong team focus brought an F1 style energy to the sport, capturing some of the excitement of events such as the Ryder Cup in a fresh way. There was also a strong emphasis on bold visuals and embracing new and emerging technologies.
I had previously worked on sports games that replicated television coverage, but this was my first time working directly on graphics for live sport. With my background in gaming and modern UI, I played a key role in designing the position totem, a defining feature of the event coverage that dynamically expanded to reveal player and team information. I also conceptualised advanced shot tracking and putting green overlays, drawing heavily on gaming UI.
It was one of those projects I had a good feeling about throughout, and Territory Studio knocked it out of the park. Sorry, wrong sport analogy.
