ABOUT

A short narrative film to accompany ‘6ft Woman’, shot and produced in the style of an old b-movie film. The song is a perfect length and provides a wonderful soundtrack, pace and range to build a narrative over the top…
Pulling our influence from 50s b-movie and early 70s and European cinema, our film is raw and dynamic, but shot
with careful composition with a strong, bold style and cinematic grade. The narrative will reflect the themes of the song, but present them from a new and unique perspective. It is a rich and colourful narrative that does what Scarlette does with music...a mash of bold ideas to create something entirely new.

In amongst the narrative, we cut to Scarlette performing the track. Her style is in contrast…a more considered, golden-age-Hollywood setting. The inspiration for these performances is very much based around the photography of
George Hurrell.

A departure from the jump cutting, vibrant, pop-style of contemporary music video…Our film creates striking visuals that carefully match and contrast whilst maintaining a warmth in character, charm and sincerity.

We take the idea of having different lyrics brought to life and merge it with the film genre pastiche. What we are left with is a patchwork of different scenes from b-movie’s that we have invented to match the lyrics of the song. Scenes that parody the style with intelligence and creativity and effectively bring the lyrics of the song to life. It is an eclectic mix of styles and settings that helps to keep the video exciting and engaging…

This film doesn’t embody a fast cutting, glitchy digital film, but instead embraces and recreates the wonderful imperfections of 50s b-movie and new-wave film…A cinematic, retro, lomo-vignetted, visual feast that captures the energy and style of Golden Age b-movies, the aesthetic and emotional honesty of new wave and the raw creativity of retro-70s long lens zooms and camera tracks and jibs. 70s style camera moves. Long lens, whip pans, clunky zooms, dolly shots. Wonderfully imperfect and characterful.

The name of the song (6ft Woman) and upcoming album (attack of the 6ft Woman) immediately draws
similarity to old b-movie style films. Gloriously stylised genre films from the 1950s where lowbudgets
promoted a high degree of craft and aesthetic ingenuity.
Dynamic framing, vibrant graphics, processed colours or scratchy black and white, imaginative sets
and characters, dramatic lighting, charming costume and tangible sets…

Perhaps the most recognisable characteristic of the bmovie is the posters… They are synonymous with the genre and are packed full of vibrant character and charm. For this idea, we bring these posters to life…literally. Using clever set design… As she sings, Scarlette walks between and becomes the poster girl in a variety of different B-Movie posters, all based around the lyrics of the song… Each poster has a different, elabourate and creative set up that is complete when seen from one particular angle and when Scarlette joins…as the camera settles, Scarlette is in costume and in place with effortless efficiency.

This has potential to be a ‘one-shot-wonder’, and relies on strict choreography and creative art direction…but the results would be stunning.

We pick out lyrics from the track and turn these into dynamic film posters that Scarlette can effortlessly become a part of.
The hero of course being the 6ft woman which begins and ends our piece. As the video develops, we can introduce more creative ideas… e.g. a water tank close to camera that will make it seem as if Scarlette is immersed (without her getting wet)

This idea has a strong relevance with Scarlette’s style and image as it celebrates bold female characters.
