ABOUT

Horseracing is a sport that is all about intensive speed. Jockeys dedicate months and years of their lives training on horses, honing and perfecting their skills so they can exact all their effects on a racecourse, competing to see who is the fastest.

My work is a series of colour photographic images portraying the jockeys at the pivotal moments just before and immediately after a race. By avoiding any viewpoints of the race itself, it is left up to the minute details of the jockeys features and expressions to convey the tensions and euphoria that is associated to racing.

By photographing my project with a 5 x 4 field camera, I am attempting to magnify the effects of the event by subjecting the jockeys to close scrutiny. Such close observation allows viewers time to question the way we process thoughts and feelings.
