About me

am a freelance copy-editor with three years experience in the field of copy-editing and publishing. I have written and edited for several magazines both online and in print.

I attained a first class bachelor's degree in Creative Writing from the University of Derby. Whilst at the University I founded a creative writing magazine, 'The Writer's Quibble', with an explicit interest in initially establishing a county-wide publishing platform for diverse students across all disciplines. Through my work on the magazine, I learnt to handle a budget, work towards strict deadlines, coordinate an editorial team, and publish to a wide readership (around 2000+ readers), both in print and online formats. The online magazine is still read and commented on by readers around the world, the US and Australia. I believe the skills and practices learnt through the course have allowed me to become a dynamic editor, extremely career focused, and has opened avenues into the commercial world of publishing.

Recently I founded a wordpress site with a team of editors, which focuses on Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror; drawing on fiction and film reviews, as well as weekly science columns showcasing cutting edge technology. World of Science Fiction was primarily introduced to create a publishing platform for aspiring genre writers, offering a monthly poetry and prose competition. The website aims to branch into ecommerce and ebook sales.

I was drawn to your position as the opportunity strikes me as rewarding and self-motivating. I believe it is important to challenge yourself, finding new avenues of enterprise. For this reason I believe I would be an ideal candidate for this position.

I am to move to London towards the end of May, as I intend to pursue an MA in Publishing from UCL, and will be available for interviews as and when I am needed.

Thanks and kind regards.

Tom Keane.
