About me

I would describe myself a conscientious film maker, motivated by people and significant events. As a British Somali Film maker I noticed a distinct lack of positive representation in the arts. This bothered me as it was the realm within which I expressed myself through acting, dancing, directing and editing. As a consequence in 2011 I decided that I would actively be the change I wanted to see and began an online channel where I could provide content that would showcase a side to the community that was not being represented. To date I have achieved over three million views online. To further improve myself and expand my skill set I enrolled onto a BA Digital Film Production degree at Ravesbourne University. I was very positively received and offered a fast track degree and I was therefore able to finished my degree in two years. I have worked on many short projects for major film festivals including Canne and Tribeca film festivals the latter of which I was able to attend in 2013. I was the recipient of the Hayat 2013 Best Film Director Award and I was shortlisted in 2014 for the Samsung Launching People Scheme.
