ABOUT

Using an original copy, we carefully dismantled, scanned and reproduced this stunning edition originally published in 1897 to celebrate Queen Victoria's diamond jubilee and her becoming Longest Reigning Monarch.

The original book was produced using a combination of letterpress and chromolithgraphy with gold decoration throughout, the gold being produced using the bronzing process (for more info see the relevant blog entry on our website)

Once dismantled, the original was drum-scanned at 1200dpi, the gold areas were separated out to form multi-channel RGB files and extensive retouching was carried out using a wide-gamut CMYK profile together with a bespoke digital-proofing profile and TVI plate curve to compensate for the off-white Phoenix Motion Xantur. Litho printed at 250dpi using a special ultra-hard-drying inkset formulated to print inline with the metallic gold, the gold working integrally with the 4col imagery throughout much of the book.

The book is large format 400 x 300mm, case bound, lined in Winter and Co Regina 9004, foiled in gold, with index ribbons and head & tail bands; it forms a one half of a cased set of books produced to celebrate Queen Elizabeth suceeding as Longest Reigning Monarch in September 2015
