ABOUT

Background

The Liminality Group (TLG) is a charity who work with young people with disadvantaged backgrounds, engaging, influencing and inspiring them to stay in school or helping to rehabilitate those that already find themselves within secure settings.

They also work with organisations to unpack complex issues, helping to transform systems, opinions, positions and attitudes and to increase psychological safety and productivity.

We worked with TLG to create a new brand identity and website that would communicate their offering more clearly and appeal to the health professionals, executives and organisations that would require their services.

Concept

The word Liminality means the threshold, or gateway, between two stages, a journey from one state to another.

Inspired by this, the idea of transformation became our inspiration for the visual identity, the basis of which is three shapes transitioning from a square to a circle.

The square signifies a tough exterior and hard to move object, but with potential. In the middle is the liminal space, the transition period, represented by a shape somewhere between a square and a circle. Lastly is the circle, which represents the whole or completeness. Rounded and balanced, it’s free to move in all directions.

Execution

These shapes are used within the logo, forming the three dots of the ‘i’s in Liminality and throughout the identity, as background patterns and graphics.

Logos were also created for each of the bespoke programmes that TLG run, including their ‘Engage, Influence and Inspire’ programme for schools, ‘Through the Gate’, ‘Criminal Justice Services’ and Short Residential Breaks.

The colour palette is clean and fresh and intentionally chosen to fit within the healthcare world and to strengthen the idea of transformation, with each colour available in three tints.

The imagery choice and layout also follows the transformation concept, with the images telling the story of the journey that young people take with TLG.

The website was kept clean and functional; segmenting TLG’s services into clear areas and programmes that shows the holistic approach that they take to the provision of care for young people - from prevention and intervention, through to rehabilitation.
