Dear Sir/ Madam,

I am writing to apply for the position of Freelance Copywriter. The position sounds very interesting and I believe my skills and experience match the job description well.

For the past two years I have been writing articles for a variety of websites on a freelance basis via oDesk. This has seen me write in a number of styles for different audiences. I have written articles and features on a wide range of topics such as celebrity news and gossip, local events, and more 'newsy' features on education, fashion and culture. I have a clear understanding of SEO and ensure articles or content I write adhere to best practice SEO principles, and rank highly on search engines such as Google. I have great attention to detail, and the ability to hit deadlines and targets without ever compromising on quality.

I am a well-rounded, creative and hard-working individual with extremely solid writing skills. In both my current and previous job positions I have been in charge of creating engaging content for the company websites as well as editing and proof-reading other promotional marketing materials. For example, at Brighton College, I updated the development pages with exciting new building projects and event information as well as created and edited content for brochures and magazines to be used as fund-raising tools. At Espresso TV, I was in charge of creating engaging content for the companies websites as well as designing, editing and proof-reading other marketing materials, such as our catalogue of programming. I was also responsible for the entire website from creating interesting synopses for our catalogue of documentaries to writing quarterly press releases and uploading images and video links. In a previous role as a Web and Communications Officer within the NHS, I also updated and maintained both our public website and staff intranet. All these roles have required me to manage the websites as a whole, not only to write exciting and informative content, but also to suggest recommendations for improvements to the overall look, layout and branding of the sites and to ensure they were easy to navigate and user friendly.

My current role is as a Website and Service Redesign Officer for Mid Sussex District Council where I am in charge of the content for the entire website and staff intranet, ensuring it is well written, engaging and uniform to our corporate brand. During this project I have researched how to deliver information to our target audience in the most accessible way. I have deleted out of date and irrelevant content, re-written content that was difficult to digest or understand into plain English, and entirely re-worked the menu structure so that the information is categorised in a logical and sensible way.

I am passionate about writing, have excellent time management and communication skills, and beleive this role would be an extremely rewarding one.
