About me
To whom it may concern,
I have recently finished my undergraduate degree as of this June 2014, from the University of Western Australia, with a Bachelor of Environmental Design. I am currently in the midst of a work placement and internship for Bricoleur Architecture + Design Studio in Nagoya, Japan until the 17th of December 2014.
Whilst accompanying my studies I was given the opportunity to work part-time at MBE as a graphic designer. MBE is a graphic design and print production firm based within Perth CBD. I gained valuable industry related knowledge within the realm of graphic design followed by print production and the final process involving product packaging and delivering. Being able to work in a team, handling client deadlines, organizing files and being able to work past office hours in order to meet the clients professional needs is something I learnt whilst at MBE. Being at MBE not only taught me how to be efficient at my computer skills, but to also hone interactivity skills such as learning how to handle clients and their needs in terms of the final product, organizing files they provide, archiving them onto our server and ensuring proofs so that the final process of production can occur. Being at university has allowed me to broaden my knowledge and expertise not only in graphic design and architecture but in art and design as a whole. I previously studied fine art in high school, ranging from installations, sculpture, paintings and murals; and so I believe I have an intimate understanding of how well things work in a design mannerism.
I have a thorough understanding of the adobe suite programs of which I have, involving other additional architecture programs too but my strongest field of skill is graphic design, however I am capable of 3D modelling (Rhino,Sketchup and 3ds Max) but of mid-range level. I am an avid sketcher and sketching is a vital part of my design process which occurs naturally. Although I have a basic understanding of how photography works, I do however understand how photography retouching works as I have had to work with professional photographers on various photoshoots. Although I may not know everything, I believe I am confident that I would be a suitable graphic designer in terms of contributing the best I can. I am a major believer in self- learning and experimentation and I believe pursuing any task or helping out the best I can within any design department will help me strengthen my knowledge in the graphics and print industry.
I am currently breaking out from the Architecture industry and diving into the graphics and fashion industry and I am determined than ever to learn and let this experience empower me in the design field as an individual. I look forward to the opportunity to meet with you to learn much more about your firm, its goals and plans and how I am able to contribute to its success.
Yours sincerely,
Dilini Natasha Gunaratna
