ABOUT

Anna, a young woman who has grown up in a Calvinist institution, is sent
away to a farm to care for an old man known to the people of the nearby town as
Sarel sonder sonde (‘Sarel-without-sins’). Sarel is suffering from dementia. He
experiences terrifying visions, and Anna soon Learns that they are surfacing
from a history of violence, repression, and guilt. Isolated and increasingly
unsure of her own sanity, Anna is nightmarishly drawn into Sarel's
descent and is forced, finally, into a desperate act of self-recovery.
