ABOUT

UNSW Art & Design is recognised as one of the world’s leading art and design schools, with an outstanding record for producing critically acclaimed artists, designers and media creators.

Our challenge was to create a vibrant student recruitment campaign that embraced the faculty’s affinity for experimentation, media innovation and emerging technologies. The theme had to embody the University’s new tagline — ‘Australia’s Global University’ — appropriate for a faculty whose people are drawn from more than 60 countries, forming Australia’s largest community of art and design practitioners, researchers, educators and students.

Student guides and interactive presentations, motivated prospective students to apply, but also assured parents and teachers that studying at the campus would provide an enriched learning experience to launch a creative career. A stylised map of Paddington and its surrounds, pinpointed UNSW Art & Design with lines of latitude and longitude. Each spread within the guides echoed these lines, reaffirming the faculty’s global impact as a creative innovator.

After visiting the studios on campus, we curated a series of textures and image treatments appropriate to the disciplines of Visual Art, Design, Digital Media and Art Theory. Student profiles featured on smaller inset pages, giving first-hand accounts of each discipline. Over 17,000 copies of the guides were printed, a record number for the faculty.

A program, environmental graphics and promotional merchandise were created for Open Day. Since our participation in creating the faculty’s recruitment materials, holiday workshops and campus tours have received a 400% increase in attendance.
