About me

I have a keen ambition to communicate science, through a variety of media, that will educate and entertain the general public. Ideally, I would like to concentrate on my science - Geology. I have a first-class degree from one of the best media/geology research and teaching departments in the UK, which has given me a real feel for the subject. Although I am still developing and honing my skills in production and writing, I consider that I represent an interesting employment proposition for a media company. Since graduating with my BSc and more recently completing my MSc, I have become much more aware of different types of media and their production values. For example, I used to listen to radio programmes infrequently, but now that I understand the importance of radio as a communications' medium, I thoroughly enjoy listening to different broadcasts. Also, I have come to realise the importance of reading 'around the subject'. I found this particularly significant during my recent work experience placement as a researcher with the BBC Radio Science Unit. The pressure of working on a live discussion programme (Material World) showed me just how prominent is that role. I had to grasp a subject that, initially, I knew almost nothing about, and communicate complex issues to the presenter who, in turn, discussed the subject with experts in that field. Over the past year of my MSc, I have developed and improved my production skills, especially with respect to my script writing
