ABOUT

Living in a world where we are surrounded more and more by technologically advanced weaponry it made me think about what time, effort, artistry and in some cases brilliance goes into the creation of such things which destroy life. In many parts of the world where the ease with which one can obtain such destructive hardware and use it indiscriminately spurred me to create some work that in some ways prompt the viewer to look upon weapons in ways out of the ordinary.
These images speak about the fragility of life and the beauty of living things, but also the craftsmanship love and care with which weapons can be made and designed, for ultimately one purpose.
Juxtaposing the delicate yet perfectly evolved insect wings to the weapons I have attempted to compare how our own human lives are fleeting yet lived with intensity, how we are so capable and inventive, yet so cold, and at the end so brutal.
I looked for some examples of the most beautiful hand guns I could find and also grenades, where one literally holds the power of life or death in the hand, and with one gesture, can symbolically throw it away.
These images are available to buy as 80x80cm giclee prints. Limited edition of only 25 of each, 4 of which are hand embellished with spot varnishes and all numbered and signed.
