Vermillion Films Birmingham

ABOUT

This film, Holy Ground, was created for Javelin Block, the company leading Birmingham's rampaging renaissance, recycling corners of Birmingham's proud industrial heritage into authentic yet modern industrial property. We're proud of all of our work, but every now and again a project comes along that reinforces all the reasons we got into making films in the first place.

Stuart Holt, principal of Javelin Block, gave us great freedom to create a film that celebrates the history of the original Comet Works buildings whilst retaining the spirit and ambition of a company that recently featured in a Wall Street Journal piece.

The buildings were previously a metal works, motorcycle factory then a munitions factory during WW2. The film features an original 1920s motorcycle that was actually manufactured in the building and genuine .303 calibre ammunition from the war. The cast included an owl called Alan and actor John Marquez bringing serious gravitas to the role of Narrator that's a world away from his PC Penhale in TV's Doc Martin.

Shot on Red Epic with Lomo Anamorphic lenses this was a real passion project and we're incredibly grateful to all the cast and crew.
