Asics’ brief was to showcase their new range of Asics Gel Resolution Tennis Shoes in a dynamic way. The idea was to demonstrate a play so powerful that the court was cracking underfoot. The campaign was to be released around the time of the French Open, and as this is infamously played upon clay courts, the concept worked perfectly.

We mocked up a number of solutions but settled on having the shoe sliding towards the camera, spraying clay dust towards the camera to bring some energy to the image.

In the studio, we created a clay court like surface from compacted sand and shot the spraying particles of the surface with a fast flash duration to freeze all the small detail. We added some court lines and surface cracking in post to complete the final image.
