About me

After I graduated in 2000, I began working for the international advertising agency group, TBWA, as a junior Creative in their South African affiliate, TBWA\Hunt\Lascaris. TBWA is one of the top ten advertising agency networks made up of 258 service agencies around the world with expertise in all of the disciplines required for the positional launching and long-term management of brands.

My responsibilities at different times, included copywriting, and for a short period of time, I worked in their finished art department. I also conceptualised and produced corporate identities, and radio & TV commercial scripts. As a junior Creative, my primary function was to help in the studio where ever l was needed. I helped prepare storyboards of ideas for TV commercials and would also source images for the art directors amongst the vast library of digital and non digital images that were available to us. I also assisted with the digital scanning of images and any other materials that the art directors or graphic designers needed for their work. I contributed ideas in ''brain-storming" sessions and also assisted on location, with film and photographic shoots.

On the copywriting side of the Creative process, I helped check pre-production work for spelling and grammar errors, and had it corrected before being sent to the Finished Art/Desktop publishing department, and then on to the printers. I helped conceptualise ideas for radio scripts and also assisted during the selection process during the "voice search".

I have worked with the Radisson hotel Group,as a freelance in-house copywriter, in their Cape Town hotel, producing the editorial for the in-house marketing material, newsletters, and employee correspondence.

I have also been a freelance copywriter for the in-house design studio of financial giant, Old Mutual (South Africa). I provided editorial support for staff correspondence that went out. I also helped conceptualise marketing ideas for product launches and staff incentives.

For two years I ran a freelance business offering copywriting & graphic design, called redbanana media.

Within the voluntary sector, I have previously provided marketing support with different tasks from copywriting to graphic design for The Sunflower Fund,in Cape Town, South Africa. This is a charity providing information for leukaemia /bone marrow testing. From July 2007 until December 2009, I was a volunteer radio broadcaster at Cambridge105 (previously 209radio). I gained radio broadcasting experience, both on-air and with pre-production, and news gathering and news reading. I co-hosted the Afternoon Drivetime show, and for a short time I also co-hosted the Breakfast show. I provided some editorial support to the 209radio charity. Social media support has also been provided for an initiative called Idea Transform.

Since March 2009, I have been trying to secure income through my own initiative called Neonical, the business runs as a freelance marketing consultancy, which means that it can fit into an existing marketing department, to provide additional support when needed. The business can also be hired for off-site work as a stand-alone developer of creative business materials.

The business has worked on producing content for an affiliate travel website, copywriting work has been done for a cataract screening business called Catatrac. I have also been a content developer, copywriter and part-time editor for a social events portal called Eventility.co.uk since January 2011.
