Huge congratulations to all the amazingly talented creatives who roam the hallways at University of Gloucestershire. Some incredible work on display for the Editorial & Advertising Photography ‘Personal work show’ from which the winners of the Shadowplay competition winners were decided – the bar has been set extremely high for next year.

‘THE HEATED DISCUSSION WOULD HAVE PUT A REPUBLICAN PRESIDENTIAL CANDIDATE DEBATE TO SHAME’

Having fully embraced the brief of playing off the word Shadowplay, deciding on the winners was no mean feat. At stages of the deliberating process the heated discussion would have put a Republican Presidential Candidate debate to shame. Anyhow eventually the judges wrestled a decision out of the door and presented the winners with the awards for the Shadowplay Photography competition 2016. The overall winner walking away with a nice new iPad.

James Warren’s beautiful conceptual self portraits came away with the win for both ‘Best Conceptual’ & ‘Best Overall’. Much of James work explores the relationship between the human body and the environment, creating intriguing juxtapositions between the two.

Zac Cheah came away with the win for ‘Best Series’ with his body of work that explored narratives that focussed on the relationship between people and the environment. Be it the harsh lines of a man made structure or the subtle distortions of a reflection in a lake.

Reece Pickering’s absorbing portraits focussing on an all girls school out in the Congo came out the worthy winner of the ‘Best Portrait’ award. The unique photographic style in combination with these beautifully captured portraits really makes this series stand out.

Becci Hutchings subtle play with shadow and colour scoped her the win for ‘Best Still Life’. Her graphic images brought together her love of baking and still life photography and are a graceful dance between light, shadow and colour.

Elliot Gunn’s Fashion Film was a dramatic slightly haunting film noir piece created to showcase a collection for a London fashion designer. The film can’t be shared until the collection is launch but will be able to view it soon on Elliott’s website.

A massive thanks to everyone who took part in the competition and a big thank you to the University of Gloucestershire for partnering up with us on this one. Great to see such an amazing caliber of work coming from all the students on the Editorial and Advertising photography course.
