This year as Montreux Jazz Festival 2020 was cancelled, the organisers held a poster competition with the theme Silent Shores. Here’s my entry – a wave pattern of the letter ‘S’ creating a shore line. I designed the letter with the curves of a horn instrument.

Entries had to be a static design, but I thought the pattern lent itself to movement so I also designed a motion version.

I didn’t make the shortlist of ten for the popular vote, but really enjoyed working on the brief.

I also had a couple of other options that I designed. For this night poster I designed all the letters for the title and found it really interesting creating the subtle serifs on the letters – here I toned the ‘s’ down to work with the other letters.

I also played around with the big ‘s’ both on its own in some colour ways I love, and again repeated into other geometric patterns.
