About me
At university, I completed a Media, Writing and Production degree, which gave me a strong background in scriptwriting and video production. I gained a great deal of knowledge from the course and, rapidly discovered that writing was the medium I wished to pursue. In my first year I decided to apply for the Skillset screenwriting bursary, and was fortunate enough to be granted this opportunity, and I worked hard to sustain this privilege for the full three years of my course.
After my university training, I went straight into the industry, working as a TV production runner on high profile shows such as, Talkback Thames's "X-Factor" and "Britain's Got Talent", Shine Ltd's "Gladiators" and Channel 4's, "Come Dine With Me". I worked on and off over a period of two years in this role and it gave me a great deal of experience on communication, people skills, time flexibility, working unsociable hours and working calmly under pressure. It was my first real taste of the hard work that is put into such a production, the experience was invaluable and left me constantly striving to be part of a creative team.
At my most recent employment I held the position of Broadcast Journalist, where I was involved in many aspects of creative media. Within the company I was entrusted with a large amount of responsibility, I demonstrated my strength to work as an individual and leader using my initiative, but was constantly aware of my role as a team player. The role demanded flexibility between the two, which I found a comfortable requirement to fulfill. Daily routines involved organising and scheduling shoots, researching, liaising with management and clients of all ages, co-managing the media department, travelling, conducting interviews, directing camera operators, editing, photography, script editing and development. The job was a very demanding position and required a variety and transferrable skills, and I was very grateful to be given the opportunity.
Since leaving university I have concentrated on persuing my media career and I have taken this further by recently completing a work experience placement as a copywriter for an online magazine writing editorial on special features, advertising campaigns and interviews.
From my chosen career paths, I have gained many disciplines by being self-motivated, goal orientated, well researched and having a keen eye for detail. Through all aspects of my professional and personal life I take an active interest in writing. In my free time I use social media sites such as twitter and work on my own blog site. In my spare time I work with my associates as a script editor, enter writing competitions and more recently writing feature article for magazines such as Dietetics today.
