About me

Currently I am the Practice Manager at Zaiwalla & Co solicitors on Chancery Lane where I have been for the past 3 years. I deal with all administrative aspects of the firm from HR, IT and the general organisation of the office. I am now looking to move away from the world of law and seek a position in a more creative environment.

Prior to my arrival at Zaiwalla & Co, the Practice Manager role did not exist and the work was done by one of the partners and the receptionist. As the company grew it became apparent that this was no longer feasible, so I was employed.

When I joined it was evident that they were in need of organising as the standard of administration showed signs of serious neglect. Initially I looked to see what was working and what was not then using my experience and organisational skills, I was able to put in place suitable procedures to improve efficiency and get the office organised. For example I increased the use of the Outlook diary for better time management, instigated a new system for off site storage for ease of use and overhauled whole personnel and administrative records. For this exercise I was left to my own devices so I had to be pro-active in order to carry it out satisfactorily.

At the start of last year we moved offices which were re-fitted to our specification. I liaised with the designers in order for us to create a layout which utilised the space whilst simultaneously increasing our efficiency. I was also involved with the interior design of the space which we kept in line with our corporate colours.

From a logistical point of view, I was solely in charge of co-ordinating the relocation from our old premises to a temporary site and then to our current office. This included finding the temporary accommodation and dealing with all of the telecommunications and logistical conundrums which are associated with moving. Although it was a stressful task it was very successful and an excellent learning experience.

Prior to Zaiwalla & Co I was a barristers clerk for almost 4 years, working at Blackstone Chambers and Matrix, both of which are large prestigious sets in their own right. I found them fun places to work and although they were busy, high-pressure environments, I was always able to stay calm under pressure whilst remaining professional and diligent, which is no different now.

Overall I believe that my work history has put me in good stead for this position. My current role has given me the experience of running an office, organising and accurately maintaining records, at Natwest I learnt about prioritising workloads, dealing with clients and working in a banking environment, my barrister clerking has helped me with time constraints and work loads and working in a chalet I was meeting dealing with clients face to face on a daily basis.
