Dear Sir/Madam

As I am now in my final year of University I am eager to move quickly into full time employment, in order to further develop old skills and also to create some new ones. Writing as a career has been my dream since I can remember and the experience I have gained through doing a language and linguistics course and specialising in sociolinguistics and psycholinguistics has given me valuable insight into the nature of language and how it can be used in a variety of ways, and for a variety of purposes. I believe that my large experience in writing all types of text and my scientific language background, would qualify me to become a successful member of your company.

This summer I was lucky enough to be offered a three month internship at a major international supplier of industrial weighing and process technology in Hamburg, Germany. In this role I was required to produce an extensive range of literature suitable for professionals from industries such as Food and Bio-Pharma. To fulfil this role I lived in Germany for the full three months, travelling the country to meet with colleges and develop marketing strategies for new product lines. I was also trusted in my final month to develop a marketing strategy alone and to present this to the head of marketing.

Due to my direct manager working in Ireland I was given the freedom to work on projects unguided and to liaise with my boss over the phone and via e-mail. This freedom allowed me to produce well over 100 separate pieces of copy for the company which included texts such as webpages, technical data sheets, manuals, Advertisement film scripts, scientific journal articles, magazine articles, reports and much more.

Within the first two weeks of employment in Germany I had produced a 10,000 word report detailing how the company could move into using social media and blogging resources to advertise to their extensive client base. The report detailed the benefits and negatives of using different varieties of online platforms and contained numerous examples of how implementation costs could be kept to a minimum. The report has generated significant interest at the company, with me being granted permission to produce a Wikipedia page as an example of how online exposure could be generated for free, quickly and simply. Subsequent to my returning to University I was informed that much of the report will be integrated into company policy.

This exposure to the world of business has equipped me with new skills and a drive to work hard and to succeed.

Although I will be relatively new to the world of work I have an already well developed work ethic derived from factory line work I did during many of my summer holidays. During this time I worked long, hard hours however, I used the shifts and the nature of the work to produce an extensive report which detailed areas where the factory was suffering from inefficient processes, this report was read by the managing director and as a result several aspects were integrated into policy.

What I lack in experience I am more than certain I can make up for with a positive attitude to hard work and an insatiable desire to flourish in the workplace. I believe that given the right opportunity I can really grow and develop positively in the world of business.
