Ocean Outdoor London

ABOUT

Concept

Ocean’s out of home (OOH) advertising estate is primarily digitally powered, using technology and lighting that is designed to be as environmentally friendly and low emission as possible. Our portfolio also includes some static sites which currently require vinyl sheets.

Inspired by the need to salvage, recycle and upcycle where possible, Ocean looked for ways to re-use those canvases as part of its mission to become a zero-waste business.

Our fashion and accessories upcycling scheme, called Project Banner, was inspired by our head of finance, Billy Byam-Cook, who ran up some sample tote bags and satchels from the repurposed vinyl material on his family sewing machine.

Execution

As part of Project Banner, we approached fashion eco-warriors VIN + OMI who have designed and produced a complete ensemble including a tote bag, coat, shorts, t-shirt and belt, clearly showcasing the capability of vinyl to be upcycled and incorporated into the fashion chain.

Neither of us wanted this to be a one-off collaboration, so we have agreed a long-term partnership in which all of Ocean’s advertising vinyl will be repurposed through their studio, helping us to become a zero-waste business.

Our new contemporary label will be produced with the help of students at Oxford Brookes University. And the launch collection will feature in VIN + OMI’s London Fashion Week show on February 14 at the Andaz London, supporters of VIN + OMI’s eco contemporary shows.

Ocean broadcasted highlights from the London Fashion Week show on February 19 across The Grid network and on the Piccadilly Lights, owned by Landsec.

Results

The Ocean label will be produced in the UK and all the pieces donated to Ocean’s charity partner, the Marine Conservation Society, to help raise funds to support the fight against plastic pollution and protect the world’s oceans and marine life.
