About me
To whomever it may concern,
Having come across the job on the Guardian Jobs Website, I read your vacancy for a Website Editor with much interest and would be the perfect move for my career as I am currently employed as a web strategist and wish to develop my career in Website Editing.
During my degree and since graduating, I have sought out strong communication experience. As an undergraduate worker and volunteer, I kept foreign exchange students informed in person of essential information, compiled and designed programs for campus events and wrote and directed plays for the theatre school.
I have always been passionate about digital communication and dedicate a lot of my time outside of work to developing my skills, knowledge and experience by studying, creating websites and social media campaigns for friends and charitable organisations, creating blogs and running campaigns.
Upon commencing my career in communications, joining the Communication Team at The Co-operative, my priority was to promote the importance of digital communications. I created the opportunity to project manage the development of a new web site. I was given editorial control of the Sales Intranet Site. I worked alongside the Web Development team to re-design the site and supported the build of a new site on a Wordpress platform. I created a project plan that would ensure the site was looking at usability, accessibility, efficient information architecture and interface design and site structure. The new site received 75% more daily hits within two months of its launch and having become the most used intranet site in the business and company in regards to accessibility, and as a result elements of its design and infrastructure have been rolled out in other departments and across the organisation.
My creativity and writing skills were recognised by my Business Leader and I took the opportunity to manage a large multi-site Insurance Sales Campaign which involved planning and creating all marketing copy, utilising digital technology and organising large events to promote the campaign. This was the most successful Insurance campaign in the business.
The work that I did, in regards to creating Communications Plans and strategies, resulted in key developments to the communications processes within the frontline sales department. As the site editor I managed, created and published all the online content and wanted to ensure that it was meeting business needs by being on brand and timely. I created a contacts database so that I was able to liaise with colleagues throughout the business regarding site content. As a result of the communications plan, colleagues were aware of timeframes and processes for submitting communication requests to my team. Meeting these communications timeframes is crucial to the business. The audience is customer facing so the communication of timely information ensured that the business aligned with TCF, DDA and FSA guidelines and supported the department in the achievement of sales targets. I was able to use my efficient copywriting and proofreading skills to decrease the communication turnaround from submission to web publishing from 48 hours to 3 hours whilst maintaining a high standard of effective, original and on brand copy.
I enjoy developing many short deadline pieces for a sales area from headlines and articles on the intranet, to visual displays and plasma slides. Alongside such work, its a pleasure also to collaborate on a wide range of projects, including printed and e-newsletters, promotional flyers, information leaflets, magazine and website pages. I have recently created the copy for a new intranet site and I create an internal sales magazine alongside submitting articles for business-wide publications. It is fascinating to tailor communication to many audience types and levels, and, I really embrace the opportunity, that digital communications offers to reach out to an extensive ever expanding audience whilst tailoring communications in line with the Marketing Strategy.
I have since applied my web planning experience to my current role at Karen Doherty Ltd. I have developed a Marketing Communication Strategy to support the launch of a new website and implement effective web campaigns to support a parenting campaign with UK Youth. I have been using PPC and Google Analytics to set up measurement metrics and outline goals for the new website and campaign. I am currently using my web development, planning and information architecture experience to develop the new website which is due for launch in September. Having previously optimised three websites I am also writing SEO copy for the site. The site has not yet launched but I have already seen great results from both the social media and press campaigns which have lead to exciting potential sponsors and celebrity endorsements.
Experience in the world of finance, customer service, fundraising and publishing has proved invaluable but it has long been my ambition to work in fashion. I consume fashion media daily and have lived with designers and artists wrking within the industry for whom I have created websites and editorials. My aim is to now apply my communication, computer, and media skills, and my enthusiasm and commitment to a Website Editor Role within the Fashion sector to combine my two passions.
Thank you for taking time to consider my application. By all means let me know if you have any questions. I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours faithfully,
Kerry Flint
