ABOUT
The war in Ukraine has been raging for months, leaving millions displaced and in need of urgent humanitarian & health aid. For charity fund Truhoma, whose origins are from the digital blockchain nature, we used AI-generated art in a mission to help Ukrainian civilians through 100% transparent donations.
At times of war in 2022-2023, Artificial Intelligence made a massive breakthrough and became the biggest digital trend worldwide. People are using a number of AI tools and algorithms to create digital artworks, texts, videos and share them on social media. While donations to Ukraine were on the decline, we decided to use AI as a powerful creative tool to attract public attention to Truhoma’s mission.
Our idea was to create a multi-angle campaign that will utilize the fresh AI trend and send a powerful message inspiring people to provide help. Among the first creative executions, we created surreal digital posters that were generated with a popular AI text-to-image platform to show that sadly some images are too close to the reality that Ukraine is facing on a daily basis.
While Ukrainian civilians are constantly in need of support, we aimed to urge donations by appealing to key human feature – empathy. Machine-learning technologies are rapidly progressing and becoming very advanced. This has recently restarted a global conversation if AI will replace humans in the nearest future. With our campaign, we communicate Truhoma’s core belief that one thing AI will never be capable of – is having a human heart and being able to provide direct help to other human beings.
First, we used real news headlines about the ongoing war in Ukraine and applied them to a popular text-to-image AI tool Craiyon. The result was a series of surreal AI-generated images which are hard to distinguish from reality. The message is that, unlike AI-generated images, the war in Ukraine is real & is still being “generated” by human hands, while millions of Ukrainian civilians are still in need of direct help.
The campaign expanded with dozens of global AI artists joining the effort and creating hundreds of original anti-war tributes under #AIartNotHumanWar hashtag.
For 1 year anniversary of the devastating war, we asked ChatGPT – a comprehensive Artificial Intelligence language model – to write a letter of support to the Ukrainian people. A short video address voiced with AI voicing platform ElevenLabs had a CTA message revealed at the end of the short AI-written speech: “Maybe AI can write an emotional letter of support but it takes a human heart to give direct help.”
With zero spending, our campaign addressed one of the biggest man-made tragedies that are unraveling in the middle of Europe. Since the start of the war, thanks to Truhoma’s non-stop fundraising efforts over 1,700 packages (over 20 tons) of food & other necessities were delivered to Ukrainian families.
