A South African Horror Story
‘The Soul Collector’
Aged and burdened with the task of collecting souls for eternity, a man yearns for redemption. In an attempt to reclaim his own soul, he resorts to offering his own daughter’s soul in exchange.

The Ask
The brief was to create an Original Score that captures the friction of the strong juxtaposition between the world of old conservative farming and traditional African spirituality.

The Response
To highlight the old conservatism, we took Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake, and then created a ‘demented’ version of it, to add a creepy feel to the score. We then superimposed horror-esque Sound Design percussion sourced from African percussion instruments to create the tension of the polar opposite worlds combining. Our version of Swan Lake was set in a bed of cinematic horror music that brought the two worlds together.
