Precedent London

ABOUT

The Water Corporation is Western Australia’s current principal supplier of water, drainage services, and water information and education services to the community. Delivering water to over 1.1 million properties, it is one of the key infrastructure services in the state.

Precedent was selected to design and build a new digital presence, as Water Corporation wanted to transform the way they delivered their services to its wide range of audience types. Following a user-centred methodology allowed us to innovate, especially in regards to customers self-serving, and leveraging efficiencies on the operating model.

A global effort

Taking advantage of a large global team, the design phase of the initial project was led out of our Edinburgh studio. As well as drawing on the most suitable talents for specific jobs, this allowed us to receive feedback and make design changes overnight.

As a result of a thorough technical discovery phase, Sitecore was identified as the most suitable content management system as it has the flexibility needed for future proof communications online through its Digital Marketing Suite and personalisation capabilities.

Working with a number of stakeholders and third-party suppliers there were a variety of data sources, both new and existing to integrate within the new CMS.

In addition, we have built a number of tools that allow customers to self-serve, providing users with the opportunity to discover more about water efficiency, what plants and products are suitable for their area, and how Western Australia’s water supply is sourced.

Continual delivery and improvement

As part of our ongoing work with Water Corporation, we have just launched version two of the Dams and Rainfall Tool. The interactive tool allows users to check information on rainfall and dam levels which is updated daily. Users are able to compare rainfall, stream flow and dam levels on a monthly, yearly or seasonal basis, providing tailored and easy to understand information for residents, businesses, developers, suppliers and teachers.

The main web project has improved ROI, streamlined workloads and reduced costs in customer and operations centres. We are now looking at delivering another suite of tools that will enable customers to understand their bill charges and water use. A mobile strategy has been identified as key to the transformation and has recently been kicked off too.
