ABOUT
Posters are a powerful marketing tool – and are, rightfully, a staple item in any indoor and outdoor, print marketing campaign. So what do you need to know to make sure that your advertising poster will be a success? We’ve compiled the 4 key aspects to consider before you start designing, and they all start with W… isn’t that just Wonderful? ;)
W for Who
The first question to answer before any decision is made: ‘who are you talking to?’. Your audience is a key influencer on all aspects of your business poster, including the remaining 3 W’s.
Are they male or female (or does gender even matter?). Define their age, income, what their interests and hobbies are, for example. The more you understand about your target market, the more tailored your poster can be and, the higher the chances of achieving your goal are.
W for What
This W stands for ‘what’s the message?’. Note that we ask it in singular. We understand you have lots to say (with amazing products and services), but it’s important to resist the temptation... You may only have seconds to get your message across, as usually one head swivel or one glance is your window of opportunity share what you’re saying (or selling, or both).
Our best advice is to keep it concise, simple and focused. Ok, ok, maybe you can include a couple of supporting messages, but just ensure they don’t compete with the main message regarding space and attention.
W for Why
The answer to this will drive your call to action. Why are you advertising? What would you like your potential customers to do after reading your marketing poster?
Give clear direction. If you expect a call, add the phone number in a large font size. If you’d like a visit to your website, display an easy-to-remember link. If you are creating an event poster, clearly state date, time and venue address – and so on… you get the idea.
W for Where
Although the general rule says that the bigger the better, it’s important to be mindful of where your business poster will be displayed. Do you have enough space for an A2 poster or would an A3 size be more appropriate?
Pogo offers A0 to A4 poster sizes that can be printed double-sided, with different designs on each side. This means that if you are displaying it on a see-through surface, for example, a shop window, passers-by on the outside can see one message, while customers on the inside can see another. 2-in-1… Win-win!
Bonus W: When
Now!... Sorry, we don’t mean to shout. The golden rule is that your timing should be consistent and in-line with your other marketing efforts, online and offline, but why wait to take advantage of such a powerful tool?
