Established by the Arts Council and the BBC, The Space brings together some of the world’s greatest artists and performers with the very latest in digital technologies. Publicly-funded and active throughout the UK, it has showcased everyone from the big-hitters of the artworld, such as Ai Weiwei, to up-and-coming artists, dramatists and musicians.
The challenge was bringing more life to the brand. Though the BBC has enormous brand recognition, many people simply hadn’t heard of The Space; worryingly, even some of those who had barely had any idea of what it actually did.
The solution lay in literally putting art at the heart of the brand. We created a logo that, in and of itself, contained a space. Both static and animated visuals could be inserted into this space, so allowing it to be infinitely flexible.
From this we delivered numerous additional pieces of branded work, show how the messaging would function across various platforms. These included an animated TV ident, templates for presentations and brand guidelines. Throughout the project we showed how the welcoming ethos of the organisation could successfully dovetail with the dynamism of digital.
