ABOUT

Concept
Roger Vivier: Héritage et imagination is a monograph published by Rizzoli New York, conceived as both a collectible object and an editorial experience. The project translates the visual and cultural language of Maison Roger Vivier into book form, balancing heritage, craftsmanship and contemporary elegance within a coherent publishing system.
The aim was not only to document the history of the brand, but also to create a book capable of moving naturally between archival research, fashion publishing and visual storytelling. The publication addresses different audiences at once: fashion scholars, collectors, industry professionals and the Maison’s international clientele.
At the centre of the project is the idea of the book as a “paper exhibition” — a carefully constructed sequence where typography, imagery and pacing reveal the cultural depth behind Roger Vivier’s iconic silhouettes and decorative language.

Execution
The editorial system is rigorous in structure yet sensorial in tone. The book brings together different materials — archival sketches, historical photography, essays, portraits, product imagery and still-life compositions — within a clear and consistent framework.
This structure allows the publication to shift rhythm without losing coherence. Cinematic full-bleed spreads alternate with quieter typographic layouts, while denser editorial sections are balanced through generous use of photography and white space.
Typography plays a central role throughout the monograph. Elegant serif titles and calligraphic accents evoke refinement and legacy, while the text composition prioritises readability, proportion and clarity. Hierarchy remains carefully controlled at every scale — from chapter openers, where typography constantly interacts with imagery, to captions and archival notes — allowing the reader to either browse visually or engage with the long-form editorial content in depth.
The cover condenses the editorial concept into a single visual gesture: a composition inspired by an original collage by Roger Vivier himself, conceived as an homage to the visual language of Piet Mondrian. Geometric colour fields and stylised buckle silhouettes position the book somewhere between fashion publication, design object and collector’s piece.

Special attention was dedicated to:
• editorial pacing and sequencing
• typographic refinement and readability
• materials and tactile perception
• visual coherence across long-form content
• translating brand heritage into a contemporary editorial language

Result
Through the integration of art direction, typographic work and image-making, the publication translates craftsmanship into a visually legible language while preserving a sense of elegance, precision and timelessness.
The result is a publication that works simultaneously as archive, fashion artefact and collectible design object, offering a spatial and visual interpretation of the Maison itself.
