About me

My name is Phillip Couzens and I am writing in response to your Senior Designer position.

I am a multi-disciplined designer with over ten years experience in branding, marketing and editorial design. The past five years have been spent working as an art director and creative designer in Tokyo. Working alongside Japanese and international creative teams was an inspiration. Having the opportunity to work on some of Japan's leading brands proved to be an extremely valuable learning curve.

During my time in Tokyo I was part of an executive team which won a pitch proposal to redesign an established business and technology magazine brand. I was appointed art director and tasked with the redesign project. The redesign went beyond cosmetic changes and introduced new sections and a new masthead of talent.

As art director I was responsible for maintaining the visual identity of the brand as a whole. This included both print and online material. Other duties include commissioning and direction of photographers and illustrators plus the usual the day-to-day running of the team in addition to providing online and internal marketing solutions.

I found mentoring junior designers as part of my role extremely rewarding.

I am now based in London and looking to take the next step. Having read your job description I am confident my skills and experience will suit this role. Having experience in a senior position I can appreciate what would be expected of me.
