ABOUT
After the collapse of the Mariana dam, in the state of Minas Gerais, Brazil, the dam waste was released into the Doce River, the most important river in the region. As a result, cities over 600 km downstream were affected. Some villages that rely on subsistence fishing were severely impacted, and fishermen lost their only source of income. Grazing areas were destroyed, and local economies were devastated.
