ABOUT

BRIEF
Create a product that exemplifies contemporary Scottish Design for an international showcase, that comments upon Scottish identity, character and creativity.

APPROACH
Working with the subject of Scotland’s famous climate (cold, wet and windy) I took a quick, quip approach and selected the sandcastle bucket (in a collaborative process with another designer). We thought the idea of a sea-side holiday in such a country was symbolic of Scottish hardiness and determination to make a good situation out of a bad one.

RESULT
Referencing a modern day master of the ready-made philosophy, Michael Marriot and nodding to the impressive tourist industry Scotland enjoys, St. Michael’s Mount is a comical take on the idea of creating something out of nothing.
