ABOUT

BRIEF
Create two bespoke chandeliers for an interiors client, lamps had to fit two specific and distinct spaces within the interior and should be industrial in both their aesthetic and material/ manufacture.

APPROACH
I took the concept and form of traditional chandeliers, of fracturing and expanding the display of light and removed all decorative elements. In response to the site I decided to design one chandelier to be hung, like a traditional chandelier would be from the ceiling, but I inversed the other one, making it appear to grow out of the ground, like a tree, towards the ceiling. I built the two separate parts of this ‘tree’ as if they were scaffolded around a real tree and selected bars that would be laminated in an organic pattern.

RESULT
These two chandeliers are like ghosts of something organic, seemingly random in the geometric lines that create the invisible form of the product. Lamps are incorporated into the structure rather than supported by it as a separate element. The are made of unpolished welded solid steel bar, with welding marks left visible, lamps have been fixed with cable ties and wires are left open to create a spontaneous finish.
