ABOUT

BRIEF
Redesign a disused basement bar space for a pop-up restaurant selling cocktails and burgers, located on one of the busiest street in Glasgow, Sauchiehall St.

APPROACH
The client had been inspired on recent business trips to London and New York by their booming pop-up restaurant scenes and in particular those with restricted menus, ramshackle and thrown together spaces, art deco speakeasy’s and the concept of ‘hidden gems’.

RESULT
Cocktail and Burger’s layout followed the footprint of the old bar it used to house, reusing oak booths and tables. I took inspiration from the 1920s and 1950s, using ornate antique lighting and mirrors to create a sense of showmanship and delicacy in the industrial setting. A bespoke bar and gantry added gem-toned colours to the moody palette of the exposed brickwork walls, hardwood furnishings and concrete floors and behind a lavish velvet curtain lay a book lined cosy retreat inspired by gentleman’s clubs and gambling dens.
