25 years after the original broadcast, Walking with Dinosaurs was about to stomp back onto our screens. This was going to be must see tv for the whole family, and our mission was to deliver huge audience figures and build dino fandom across BBC Earth platforms.
Our Single-minded proposition was: Six incredible dinosaurs, each with their own story to tell. We wanted to unveil them like never before, showing the truth behind the teeth. They weren’t just flesh-eating monsters; they had real personalities and were the protagonists of their own epic stories.
These magnificent dinosaurs had been buried for millions of years, and they were about to rise again, which is why our creative idea was ‘Legends Unearthed’. We wanted to convey this message by portraying them as heroes, setting out to survive and conquer. Our goal was to attract as broad an audience as possible. We created something for everyone - Families, niche audiences as well as science and history lovers.
To do this, we devised a social campaign that would bring the show into the 21st century, ignite audiences across all platforms, and build new fandoms.
Our strategy proved a success, with stats including a 3.1 million viewer average of the series in the UK. Across VOD and Linear digital campaigns, it delivered more than 74M impressions, a 27M unique reach and 160K clicks. With over 35 million views online, over 2 million engagements, plus a growth in subscribers of over 90k, something huge really did return!
