ABOUT
During my time at Rueda Miami, I led a project called #oceandetox, a beach cleanups to turn waste materials from beach pollution into a meaningful art installation. My creative vision was to transform everyday discarded materials, like plastics and other small beach finds, into something impactful that would highlight environmental issues and inspire people to rethink their consumption and eco preservation habits.
The process involved gathering materials during beach cleanups and reimagining them as part of a large-scale installation. One of my key projects was a 12-foot robot, made from discarded VHS tapes, chicken wire, and electrical tubing, which I created for Art Basel’s edition show in 2016. I managed every stage of the creative process, from initial concept development to the physical construction of the piece. Or the 1200 plastic water bottle bird, made of chicken wire and electrical tubbing for the same event. This included handling the logistics of working with unconventional materials, as well as ensuring that the final work stayed true to the environmental message I wanted to convey.
As the project leader, I coordinated timelines, oversaw production, and worked independently to ensure the project met Art Basel’s standards while delivering on my artistic vision. The installation garnered significant attention at Art Basel, both for its striking size and the environmental statement it made, sparking conversations about sustainability in the art world.
The success of this project solidified my commitment to using recycled materials in my work and demonstrated my ability to lead creative projects that intersect art, social impact, and environmental awareness.
