Solitary confinement is torture everywhere, but in Michigan, in extremely remote northern prisons, people waste away and descend into madness with barely any oversight. Knowing this reality was invisible to most, community organizers worked to develop a digital archive of first-hand experiences inside Michigan’s brutal max facilities.

People caged wrote letters to share their experiences. Advocates in Michigan collected them, and artists interpreted them. Designers curated them, and coders organized and filtered them. The result is: Silenced.
