This is a simple drawing from January 2023, a piece quite different from the rest of my portfolio.I have many talented relatives who can play bağlama or saz, a well-known instrument in Anatolian folk music with deeply philosophical characteristics. The instrument has accompanied so many soulful poets and is part of the minstrel (aşıklık) practice in Anatolia.It reminds me of my late uncle who used to play it and sing for the whole family with his beautiful voice.The way the object blends with the soft watercolour wash illustrates how its musical sounds are embedded in culture, family roots and nature.
