ABOUT

A lead feature for The Recycler, the premier trade magazine for the inkjet cartridge remanufacturing industry, on the threat to the planet of plastic waste. As a green and environmentally-conscious industry working primarily with plastics, the issue was deeply entwined with the readership of the magazine, and was published as the crisis became a more widely-discussed phenomenon.

The feature required extensive research into the problems posed by plastic pollution, and the gathering of various expert opinions and perspectives. It also involved explaining complex and multifaceted problems to a worldwide readership, many of whom would not speak English as a first language, without sacrificing the integrity of the article. Furthermore, it had to be engaging, compelling, and immensely readable - as a magazine will live and die based on how interested its readership is in the content.

The article was a big success and informed much of the discussion at the magazine's subsequent summer conference in Budapest, as well as being revisited several times throughout the following year as updates to the situation broke through. The article was also extremely well-timed, as upon its publication, the plastic waste pandemic became a major talking point for news outlets around the globe, ensuring that both the feature, and the magazine, were ahead of the cultural curve.
