O Fred Preston Inter-disciplinary creative & doctoral researcher

ABOUT

This short film shines a light on active and embodied travel in streets and urban roads.

Based in Brighton and London, the video and animation combine to capture the narrator's research journey around friends, strangers and acquaintances, trying to both acknowledge and cut through the politics of the road, to then find more nuanced insights into the status quo.

This research hopes to support, guide or influence future areas of urban design, architecture or public policy towards community-centric design.

Skooters refers loosely to the non-dominant road users such as skaterboarders, rollerskaters, scooterers and mobility scooterers, alongside less-confident or vulnerable cyclists, runners and any other 'inbetweeners', that lie in the un-catered for area between pedestrians and confident solo cyclists.

It the includes a physical design output: The Polyskooter - not a final solution - but a discursive design to explore new possibilities.
