ABOUT
One of the things I most love about print, design for textiles
is that I get to see what will be happening trend wise up to a year before
It happens..
One trend coming up for A/W 2017-18 that stands out for me is Nocturnal Orient
A theme created and filtering down from Fashion houses such a
GUCCI, PRADA and FENDI to our hughstreet.
The starting point for my process is a mood board.
from it I narrow down the list of ideas to one theme.
the beautiful oriental fish, for me the strongest imagery.
A few of my own illustrations.
Following on from part one of nocturnal Orient, print trend A/W 2017-18
I have to make decisions on colour. most trends have a list of colours attached, for them to
be commercial.
the main rule for nocturnal orient regarding colour is that it has a dark background, which
gives it the nocturnal element.
I decided on a pond as my theme because its depths are dark night or day.
for my design, the goal was to give the impression of water by night, by adding deep dark background, complemented by turquoise.
lily-pads in white to reflect the surface and the movement of the fish
A placement was the first step in my group of designs
followed by a repeat pattern then a coordinate design.
