ABOUT

Old fashioned fairy tales and their morality lessons have always inspired me. They were created intending to teach children the potential dangers of the world and served to encourage them to stay on the right path in life. However, some of these morality lessons have been lost across the many years since original fairy tales first publications. In modern day interpretations, especially concerning Little Red Riding Hood, the old message has been hidden and the severity of it has been lightened very noticeably. Originally there was no happy ending or near escape, just death, treachery, deceit and a warning to young women of the predatory natures of men.

I wanted to illustrate in this modern age the classic version of Little Red Riding Hood to keep the historical message strong. And highlight that no matter how disturbing some might find these dark tales, they are nevertheless a perfect source of escapism and exciting, slightly scary pieces of literature that children can enjoy and learn from as was intended at the time of the stories creation.
