ABOUT
In this high-intensity CG-VFX sequence, the once-silent streets of Tokyo erupt into chaos. A dense crowd of digital characters sprints through Shibuya Crossing, their movements captured with motion-capture data to convey panic and urgency. Dynamic simulations drive clothing, debris, and interactions between hundreds of agents, creating a believable surge of people fleeing an imminent disaster.
As the camera tracks the crowd from a sweeping overhead angle, a massive explosion detonates near the base of a towering skyscraper. The blast VFX combines volumetric fireballs, shockwaves, and photoreal smoke plumes that billow outward, scattering glass shards and sending vehicles tumbling. Detailed destruction simulations fracture the building façades in real time, with secondary debris raining onto the fleeing crowd.
The sequence climaxes as a monumental statue—an iconic symbol of the city—buckles and collapses. High-resolution rigid-body dynamics and procedural fracture techniques break the statue into hundreds of fragments, each piece reacting to gravity and colliding with the ground in slow motion. Dust clouds and fine particles fill the air, enhancing the sense of scale and impact.
Lighting design heightens the drama: searing orange and white from the explosion contrasts against the cold blue of the city’s neon, casting dynamic shadows over the scene. The final shot lingers on the statue’s shattered remains, the air thick with smoke and drifting embers as the city falls into stunned silence once more.
