ABOUT
I was asked to do a portrait of this child. I was commissioned to photograph and conceptualise the piece. I wanted the piece to have a "National Geographic" engaging feel about it. I painted salvia from my garden into the embroidery work on the clothing and concentrated on the eyes being engaging. The piece also speaks about the influence people have on children when they continually tell them to be who they are, whoever they want to be, and that they will be loved and cherished no matter what that looks like. If I feel great and sure and someone tells me these things, I am tempted to doubt myself - I thought I was ok... and ask myself if perhaps I need to be more. The Message by Eugene Peterson put it's best in this case with the line "be yourself, no more, no less."
